I've been looking into a visa too. If you can't go yourself to a consulate (NC isn't near one either!) there are various visa companies out there that will take all of your info and will go to the consulate to get your visa for you. I'm probably going to get mine that way. Hope that helps!

I founda good company through my mom's travel agent - its called Zierer Visa Service. They are very professional and helpful. Their worker who helped me today is a little confused; he's requesting information from the consulate right now. China only has travel and business visa, which you probably already know, unlike most countries, which also have humanitarian visas. He doesn't know which one is better to apply to. Second, these visas usually only last for 30 days, which is problematic. I'll post something when I get more information.
